Position Description

The Accountant reports directly to the Director of Accounting and Finance to assist with financial management by supporting agency fiscal needs. The Accountant contributes to financial management processes while supporting organizational objectives in a dynamic and diverse environment. The Accountant consistently demonstrates San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP) core values of communication, integrity, excellence, respect, innovation, and teamwork, both internally and publicly.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting
• Prepares and maintains financial statements monthly, including Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, Statement of Functional Expenses, and Statement of Cash Flows.

Reconciliations and Auditing
• Reconciles bank statements and general ledger accounts.
• Assists with internal monitoring and external audits.

Budgeting and Forecasting
• Assists in developing budgets, tracking expenses, and forecasting future financial needs.

Compliance
• Ensures all financial practices align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as local, state, and federal laws.

Other
• Prepares and submits monthly invoices, weekly accounts payables, and journal entries, as warranted.
• Manages and reports on Small Business Economic Development Advocacy (SBEDA) tracking, resolves discrepancies, if needed.
• Determines fair market value of monthly in-kind donations, and manages and prepares journal entries of in-kind donations.
• Other assignments as deemed necessary.

Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in Accounting or four (4) years of equivalent experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in the accounts payable process.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations.
• Software proficiency and solid work experience with QuickBooks online and Microsoft Office Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis and reporting tools.
• Experience with budget preparation, oversight, and fiscal management.
• Knowledge of information-gathering techniques, processes, practices, and data security.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Demonstrated ability to propose and implement plans and strategies.
• High attention to detail with the ability to spot errors, analyze trends, and identify financial risks.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, fostering a positive environment, and achieving focused results.
• Strong self-motivation with the ability to prioritize work effectively on multiple projects with short timelines.
• Nonprofit experience preferred but not required.
• Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance in the employee’s name.

Working conditions
• This is an in-office position located at 131 El Paso St., San Antonio, TX 78204. The hours are 8am – 5pm. This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours.

Physical requirements
• Subject to sitting, standing, bending, twisting, and walking to perform the essential functions.

Salary Range: $45,000 - $48,000, commensurate with experience.
